Brand identity & custom illustration system for a community nutrition hub at the Boston Public Library
The Nutrition Lab of the Boston Public Library is a community hub for nutrition literacy, offering cooking demonstrations, hands-on classes, and a welcoming space to build confidence, learn new skills, and connect with neighbors over food.
The brief was to create a visual identity that truly reflected the people who use the space. Rather than relying on generic food imagery, I developed a custom illustration system of 100+ original icons representing the diverse cultures, cuisines, and everyday objects of the Nutrition Lab's community. Each illustration was drawn from scratch to feel hand-crafted and warm, approachable enough for a neighborhood library, distinctive enough to anchor a real brand.
The result was a flexible mini brand kit: a library of illustrations that could be mixed, layered, and applied across signage, printed collateral, aprons, and any future touchpoints, growing with the program rather than locking it into a single template.
